說(shuō)到生病看醫(yī)生，不少人會(huì)將“去醫(yī)院”直接翻譯為“go to hospital”，但這種說(shuō)法真的準(zhǔn)確嗎？事實(shí)上，我們?cè)谡f(shuō)“去醫(yī)院”時(shí)，通常想要表達(dá)的是“去看醫(yī)生”這一含義，“go to hospital”容易引發(fā)誤解。“Hospital”本身指的是綜合性大醫(yī)院，通常設(shè)有急診科，可治療從火災(zāi)、事故受害者到心臟病發(fā)作等各種緊急健康問(wèn)題。The best-known type of hospital is the general hospital, which typically has an emergency department to treat urgent health problems ranging from fire and accident victims to a heart attack. 當(dāng)采用“go to hospital”這一表達(dá)時(shí)，通常會(huì)認(rèn)為病人病得很嚴(yán)重，到了需要住院的程度。感冒發(fā)燒之類的小問(wèn)題，可以說(shuō)“go to the doctor/see a doctor/go to the clinic”。I go to the doctor for a routine checkup every year. 我極力勸她去看醫(yī)生。 需要注意的是，冠詞“the”會(huì)造成短語(yǔ)意思的改變。“go to the hospital”除了看病之外，還有可能指的是去醫(yī)院看望病人，一定要注意有無(wú)冠詞。如果病情嚴(yán)重需要留觀或治療而住院，“住院”的表達(dá)是“be in hospital/be hospitalized”。
說(shuō)完了住院，那“出院”能不能直接說(shuō)“l(fā)eave the hospital”呢？這是一種比較寬泛的說(shuō)法，無(wú)論因?yàn)槭裁丛驈尼t(yī)院離開(kāi)都是“l(fā)eave the hospital”，容易引發(fā)歧義。通常情況下，出院的表達(dá)是“discharge oneself from hospital/be discharged from the hospital”?！癲ischarge”也可以換成“release”。He discharged himself from hospital against the advice of doctors. 體檢不是“body check”！ 英文里“體檢”的正確表達(dá)是“checkup”。
