這個(gè)故事來(lái)自《 A Day in London 》（倫敦一日游），是丹媽前兩天開(kāi)團(tuán)的牛津閱讀樹(shù)第8級(jí)中的一冊(cè)。為了方便大家理解，我附上了翻譯。

這個(gè)故事講了一個(gè)很潮、很有趣的英國(guó)老太太，跟我們身邊的奶奶可是完全不同的啊。孩子們特別喜歡她，來(lái)看看她是如何“花式帶娃”的吧！

《 A Day in London 》

倫敦一日游

Gran came to stay. The children ran to meet her.

“Hooray!” said Kipper. “I love it when Gran comes to stay. She’s good fun.”

奶奶過(guò)來(lái)住幾天，孩子們一路小跑著去見(jiàn)她。

“萬(wàn)歲！”Kipper說(shuō)。“我喜歡奶奶過(guò)來(lái)，她太有意思了！”

丹媽解析： 當(dāng)我們說(shuō)一個(gè)人非常有意思的時(shí)候，就可以學(xué)習(xí)句子中的表達(dá)“She’s good fun.”

Gran brought presents for everyone. She gave Mum and Dad an ornament. Kipper had some little golf clubs and Biff and Chip had a keyboard.

“Thanks Gran,“ said everyone.

奶奶給每個(gè)人都帶了禮物。她送給爸爸媽媽一個(gè)裝飾品。Kipper得到了高爾夫球棍，Biff 和 Chip拿到了一個(gè)琴鍵。

“謝謝奶奶?！贝蠹叶枷蚰棠痰乐x。

“I’ve another surprise for you,” said Gran. She gave the children some funny-looking parcels.

“What are they ?”asked Kipper.

“Boomerangs,” said Gran.

“孩子們，我還給你們準(zhǔn)備了別的驚喜哦?！蹦棠陶f(shuō)著，給了孩子們一些樣子很好笑的包裹。

“這是些什么呢？” Kipper問(wèn)奶奶

“回飛鏢?！蹦棠陶f(shuō)。

丹媽解析：這里出現(xiàn)了一個(gè)表達(dá)， golf clubs ，是高爾夫俱樂(lè)部的意思嗎？聯(lián)系上下文，奶奶不可能送一個(gè)高爾夫俱樂(lè)部給Kipper呀，所以在這里，是高爾夫球棍的意思。

可以帶孩子擴(kuò)展一些Boomerangs的知識(shí)（回飛鏢）。

比如WIKIPEDIA中對(duì)Boomerangs的解釋是：

A boomerang is a tool, typically constructed as a flat airfoil that, when thrown, is designed to spin about an axis perpendicular to the direction of its flight. A returning boomerang is designed to return to the thrower. It is well known as a weapon used by Indigenous Australians for hunting.

認(rèn)識(shí)一下真實(shí)的Boomerangs長(zhǎng)什么樣子。

如果條件允許的話，還可以買一個(gè)回飛鏢，和孩子一起玩一下。這些都是對(duì)國(guó)外文化的積累。

The children wanted to see how the boomerangs worked. Gran took them outside. She threw a boomerang and it whizzed through the air.

“Look out!” shouted Gran.

孩子們想知道回飛鏢是怎么玩得。奶奶把他們帶到戶外。她扔了一個(gè)回飛鏢，回飛鏢在空中颼颼作響。

“小心！”奶奶大叫！

Kipper wanted to play with the golf clubs.

Gran showed him what to do. She hit the ball , but she hit it too hard and it smashed a window.

“Oh, dear,” said Gran.

Kipper想要玩高爾夫球棍。奶奶給他示范了一下怎么做。她擊中球，因?yàn)閾舻锰昧η虬汛皯艚o打破了。

“哦，天吶！”奶奶說(shuō)。

丹媽解析：whizzed through the air 在空中颼颼作響。這些都可以作為寫(xiě)作的素材積累。

Look out是很實(shí)用的表達(dá)，可以用在生活中很多地方。

Next Day, Wilf , Wilma, Nadim and Anneena come to play. Biff and Chip showed them the keyboard. Gran had a good idea.

“Let’s have a band. “she said.

第二天，Wilf ,Wilma, Nadim 和 Anneena過(guò)來(lái)玩。Biff和 Chip給他們看琴鍵。奶奶又有了一個(gè)好主意。

“我們組成一個(gè)樂(lè)隊(duì)吧！”她說(shuō)。

The band made a lot of noise and the children had a good time.

“Whatever will Gran do next? ” said Dad.

“She’s worse than the children! ” said Mum.

“樂(lè)隊(duì)”制造了很多噪音，但是孩子們玩得很開(kāi)心。

“不知道奶奶接下去要做什么了?！卑职终f(shuō)。

“她比孩子們還會(huì)搗亂！”媽媽說(shuō)。

丹媽解析：爸爸和媽媽的對(duì)話，很地道的表達(dá)，值得學(xué)習(xí)，襯托出了奶奶有多愛(ài)搗亂。

Gran had promised to take the children on an outing. She said that Nadim an Anneena could go too.

“I’ll take you all to London, ”she said.

奶奶答應(yīng)要帶孩子們?nèi)ネ饷嫱妫f(shuō)Nadim和Anneena也可以一起去。

“我要帶你們?nèi)惗赝??！彼f(shuō)。

“Look after Gran,” said Mum as they got into the car. “Try and stop her getting into trouble.”

“We’ll do our best,” said Biff, “but it won’t be easy.”

“照顧好奶奶?！彼麄兩宪嚨臅r(shí)候媽媽叮囑孩子們。

“不要讓她惹麻煩?！?/span>

“我們會(huì)盡力的?！盉iff說(shuō)，“但是估計(jì)有點(diǎn)難?！?/span>

丹媽解析：可以學(xué)幾個(gè)詞組

盡力而為，try one’s best

那不會(huì)很簡(jiǎn)單，It won’t be easy

When they got to London, Gran parked the car.

“Now we’ll take the tube,” said Gran. “It’s the best way to get around.”

他們來(lái)到了倫敦。奶奶停好車。

“接下去我們要做地鐵了。”奶奶說(shuō)，“游玩的時(shí)候坐地鐵再好不過(guò)了?！?/span>

There were lots of people waiting on the platform. When the train came in everyone rushed to get on.

“Now I know why it’s called a tube,” said Anneena ,“everyone gets squeezed!”

有很多人等在地鐵站臺(tái)上?；疖噥?lái)了，大家都一窩蜂地?cái)D上去。

“現(xiàn)在我終于知道為什么這個(gè)叫管道了?！?Anneena說(shuō)，“因?yàn)榇蠹叶紨D在一起！”

丹媽解析：大家都擠在一起怎么說(shuō)？everyone gets squeezed。

北上廣每天坐地鐵上下班的爸爸媽媽，應(yīng)該感觸特別深吧！下次可以帶娃感受一下，什么是squeezed。（捂臉）

讀到這里，其實(shí)我們也可以發(fā)現(xiàn)，在level8中，句子，句型都在變得更長(zhǎng)，難度加大，但用詞絕對(duì)不是很難，很生僻的那些詞，而是用最高頻的簡(jiǎn)單的詞組成的，是孩子可以隨時(shí)用起來(lái)的那些表達(dá)。

They went to Trafalgar Square. On top of the column was a statue of Nelson.

“ I wouldn’t like to be up there ,” said Biff.

“ I don’t like heights.”

他們?nèi)チ颂乩柤訌V場(chǎng)。圓柱的最頂端是海軍名將納爾遜銅像。

“我不喜歡在那里?！盉iff說(shuō)，“我不喜歡這樣的高度?！?/span>

There were lots of pigeons in Trafalgar Square. Gran bought some nuts. The children fed the pigeons.

“Oh help! ”said Nadim. “I didn’t know that pigeons were so greedy.”

特拉法爾加廣場(chǎng)上有很多鴿子。奶奶買了些堅(jiān)果。孩子們就在廣場(chǎng)上喂鴿子。

“哦，快幫幫我。” Nadim說(shuō)，“我不知道原來(lái)這些鴿子這么貪婪?！?/span>

丹媽解析：這里可以了解一些倫敦的著名景點(diǎn)，還有英國(guó)的歷史，比如海軍名將納爾遜，爸爸媽媽可以提前做點(diǎn)功課，給孩子講一下這個(gè)將軍的故事。

They were to Buckingham Palace.

“This is where the Queen lives,” said Gran.

“It’s enormous ,” said Anneena. “The Queen must be busy with all those rooms to clean.”

他們又去了白金漢宮。

“這就是女王住的地方?！蹦棠陶f(shuō)。

“好大的宮殿！” Anneena說(shuō)，“女王每天打掃這么多房間要花好多好多時(shí)間吧！”

A big car drove past and everyone cheered and waved. The children couldn’t see who was inside the car.

“Perhaps it’s the Queen,” said Biff.

一輛很大的車經(jīng)過(guò)，大家開(kāi)始?xì)g呼，招手。孩子們看不清車?yán)锩孀氖钦l(shuí)。

“可能就是女王吧?！盉iff說(shuō)。

丹媽解析：女王需要親自打掃房間嗎？當(dāng)然不需要！但是在孩子們的心中，自己的房子就應(yīng)該自己打掃啊！多么符合孩子們的思維邏輯啊。

這也證明了，牛津閱讀樹(shù)的故事，處處透著幽默。

Gran took them on a boat. They went under Tower Bridge . The children were excited because the bridge began to open.

奶奶帶他們上了一條船。他們來(lái)到了塔橋下面。孩子們太興奮了，因?yàn)樗蛞蜷_(kāi)了。

It began to rain and the wind blew. Everyone felt cold.

“Never mind，”said Gran. “We’ll think of somewhere warm to go next.”

天開(kāi)始下雨了，又刮起了風(fēng)。大家感覺(jué)好冷。

“沒(méi)關(guān)系?！蹦棠陶f(shuō)，“我們等下去找一個(gè)暖和點(diǎn)的地方吧。”

丹媽解析：這里可以和孩子談點(diǎn)Tower Bridge的事情。

還有一個(gè)很實(shí)用的表達(dá)，never mind，可以用在很多地方，比如不重要，別擔(dān)心；別管某人或者某事；人家沒(méi)聽(tīng)清或者不理解,回問(wèn)你,你想算了等。

They went to the waxworks.

“What is a waxworks? “ asked Kipper ,as they went in.

“It has wax models of famous people, “ said Anneena.

他們?nèi)チ讼炏耩^。

“蠟像館是什么呢？”當(dāng)他們進(jìn)去的時(shí)候，Kipper問(wèn)奶奶。

“就是里面有很多名人的蠟像的地方?！?Anneena說(shuō)。

They looked at the models.

“Don’t they look funny? “ said Kipper.

“You can tell they are models and not real people,” said Anneena.

他們看了那些模特們。

“你們不覺(jué)得他們看著很好笑嗎？”Kipper說(shuō)。

“他們是模特，不是真的人啊?！盇nneena說(shuō)。

丹媽解析：蠟像館也是倫敦的文化地標(biāo)了，跟著kipper他們一路游玩，一路長(zhǎng)見(jiàn)識(shí)。

“Don’t they look funny? “這樣的反問(wèn)句，也是不錯(cuò)的口語(yǔ)表達(dá)積累。

“Who are these people?” asked Kipper.

“That is Queen Victoria,” said Gran, “ and some of her grandchildren.”

“She had lots of grandchildren, ”said Nadim.

“這些人都是誰(shuí)呢？”Kipper問(wèn)。

“那是維多利亞女王?！蹦棠陶f(shuō)?！斑€有她的一些子孫?！?/span>

“她有很多子孫。” Nadim說(shuō)。

“Queen Victoria looks very fierce, ”said Biff. “I bet she wasn’t like you, Gran.”

“Well , I wouldn’t like to be a queen,” said Gran. “It must be a hard job.”

“維多利亞女王看上去很嚴(yán)肅?！?Biff說(shuō)，“我敢打賭她和你一點(diǎn)兒都不像，奶奶。”

“對(duì)，我不想做女王。”奶奶說(shuō)，“我覺(jué)得女王應(yīng)該是一個(gè)很難得工作?！?/span>

丹媽解析：幽默的、接地氣的、和藹和親的奶奶形象一下子就躍然紙上了。我們讀原版英文繪本，最大的好處，就是可以有最原汁原味的感受，從心里去體會(huì)一種語(yǔ)言。

They looked at a street scene.

“This is what London was like a long time ago,” said Gran. “ A lot of people were very poor.”

他們又看了一個(gè)街景。

“這是很久很久之前的倫敦，那時(shí)候很多人都很窮?！蹦棠陶f(shuō)。

“Poor children didn’t  go to school in those days. They had to work instead,” said Gran.

“That boy carrying brushes is a sweep. His job was to climb up chimneys and brush soot down.”

“那時(shí)候窮人的孩子們都上不了學(xué)，他們只能工作。”奶奶繼續(xù)說(shuō)道，“你看那個(gè)拿著掃帚的是一個(gè)清潔工。他的工作就是掃煙囪，把煙灰都掃下來(lái)?！?/span>

丹媽解析：可以了解一些倫敦的歷史。

Gran went off to look at the Royal Family while the children stayed at the street scene.

“Do you think Gran should go off by herself?” said Biff.

“She can’t do much harm in here,” said Chip.

在孩子們繼續(xù)看街景的時(shí)候，奶奶一個(gè)人過(guò)去看皇室成員的蠟像了。

“你們覺(jué)得奶奶一個(gè)人去可以嗎？”Biff說(shuō)。

“我覺(jué)得在這里她不太可能闖禍吧？”Chip說(shuō)。

Gran dropped her handbag, and some money rolled among the models. Gran went to pick it up. As she bent down she knocked into the waxworks and they began to fall over.

奶奶的包包掉了，里面的錢滾出來(lái)掉落在了蠟像中間。奶奶過(guò)去撿錢。當(dāng)她彎腰撿錢的時(shí)候，撞到了蠟像，那些蠟像開(kāi)始倒了。

丹媽解析：看到這句“She can’t do much harm in here,”有沒(méi)有特別想笑？

奶奶真的是活寶啊，她比孩子們更喜歡搗亂，需要孩子們時(shí)時(shí)看著她，太好玩了。

Gran picked the models up and put the heads back on. The children couldn’t believe it 

“Gran ! What are you doing?” said Biff.

奶奶把模特們都扶起來(lái)，然后把頭都放上去。孩子們看到這一幕簡(jiǎn)直不敢相信自己的眼睛。

“奶奶，你在干什么?。?？”Biff說(shuō)。

“Don’t just stand there ,” said Gran. “Help me. Pick the models up before anyone sees.”

“Oh Gran, ”said Biff. “I let you out of my sight for a second , and this happens.”

“別站在那里啊，快過(guò)來(lái)幫我把這些模特的頭放回去?！?/span>

“哦，奶奶，你剛剛離開(kāi)我的視線才一會(huì)會(huì)功夫，就這樣子了?！盉iff說(shuō)。

丹媽解析：這里有一個(gè)叫“l(fā)et you out of my sight for a second”，某人離開(kāi)你的視線的時(shí)候，就可以這么說(shuō)。

They picked the models up and put the heads back on.

“They look strange,” said Anneena. “I  don’t think the heads are right.”

“Oh no！” said Gran.

他們把模特們都扶起來(lái)，然后把頭放回去了。

“但是他們看上去好奇怪?！?Anneena說(shuō)，“我覺(jué)得這些頭好像放錯(cuò)了?！?/span>

A lady ran up .She was very cross with Gran.

“I can’t think how you knocked the models over in the first place,” she said. “It’s never happened before.”

“I’m very sorry,” said Gran.

一個(gè)女士跑過(guò)來(lái)，她對(duì)奶奶很生氣。

“我不知道你是怎么把這些模特撞了的，從來(lái)都沒(méi)有發(fā)生過(guò)這樣的事情?！彼f(shuō)。

“我非常抱歉。”奶奶說(shuō)。

丹媽解析：對(duì)某人很生氣，這里出現(xiàn)了一個(gè) be cross with somebody， 是不是比 be angry at somebody更加高級(jí)呢？

“I don’t know ,” said Biff. “I don’t think they will let Gran in the waxworks again.”

“Never mind,” said Chip. “Gran didn’t mean to knock them over.”

“我不知道，我覺(jué)得他們應(yīng)該不會(huì)再讓奶奶進(jìn)蠟像館了?！?/span>

“沒(méi)關(guān)系的，奶奶又不是故意要撞到他們的?！盋hip說(shuō)。

“Thank you for a great day out,” said Nadim. “We had never been to London before .”

“I liked the ride on the boat best,” said Kipper. “Even if it was cold.”

“ I liked everything,” said Anneena.

“謝謝你們，我讀過(guò)了非常棒的一天，我們從來(lái)都沒(méi)有來(lái)過(guò)倫敦?！盢adim說(shuō)。

“我最喜歡坐船的時(shí)候，雖然有點(diǎn)冷。”Kipper說(shuō)。

“我都喜歡?！盇nneena說(shuō)。

丹媽解析：旅途結(jié)束后，孩子們都在發(fā)表自己的感想，整理一下，下次孩子們也用的上！

“Home at last,” said Gran. “We can tell Mum some of our adventures, but not all of them… and not the one about beheading the Queen.”

“終于到家了。我們可以告訴媽媽我們的探險(xiǎn)之旅，但不要全部都說(shuō)，特別是把女王的頭撞下來(lái)的那個(gè)?！?/span>

丹媽解析：像Home at last 這種是多么地道的表達(dá)呀，我們終于到家了；奶奶說(shuō)的話也超級(jí)可愛(ài)，幽默的。
