  “吉祥物”作為代表東道國特色的標(biāo)志物，是一個國家文化的象征。她從各個層面反映了東道國的歷史發(fā)展、文化觀念、意識形態(tài)以及社會背景，并在政治、經(jīng)濟、文化等多個領(lǐng)域的傳播中扮演著十分重要的角色。

  以漢字的“人”作為核心創(chuàng)意，既反映了中國文化的特色，又呼應(yīng)了上海世博會會徽的設(shè)計理念。在國際大型活動吉祥物設(shè)計中率先使用文字作為吉祥物設(shè)計的創(chuàng)意，是一次創(chuàng)新。

 三、名字由來

   中國2010年上海世博會吉祥物的名字叫“海寶（HAIBAO）”,意即“四海之寶”。“海寶”的名字朗朗上口，也和他身體的色彩呼應(yīng)，符合中國民俗的吉祥稱謂原則。“海寶”的名字與吉祥物的形象密不可分，寓意吉祥。
