I don't accept that I am what I am and that is what I'm doomed to be. No. I don't accept that. I'm fighting. I'm always fighting. I'm struggling and I'm scrapping and I'm kicking and clawing at those weaknesses, to change them, to stop them.

Some days I win, some days I don't. But each and every day, I get back up and I move forward with my fists clenched toward the battle, toward the struggle and I fight with everything I've got to overcome those weaknesses and those shortfalls and those flaws.

As I strive to be just a little bit better today than I was yesterday. There's no longer any room for excuses. Excuses are tools of the incompetent, used to build bridges to nowhere and monuments of nothingness. Well we've got no time for excuses.

I'm so grateful that the slaves didn't drop and quit and say I'm just going to stop. I'm a slave. I'm just going to be a slave. I'm gonna quit.

沒有人會給你任何東西，只有自己爭取。沒有人在乎你的成長有多煎熬，沒有人在乎你是否曾經(jīng)受過歧視。我很慶幸奴隸們不曾因累到放棄。他們沒有說：我要停下來，我是奴隸，一直都只能是奴隸，我要放棄。

The slaves said we're going to act like we're free, and one day our children will be free if the slaves would have just said: we quit, we give up, we would have died in the Middle Passage.

奴隸們說：假裝我們自己是自由的，等到某一天，我們的后代會真的獲得自由。假如他們說不干了，我們不當(dāng)奴隸了。那么他們將會在中央航路中死去。

But some slaves said I don't care what we go through. We're going to survive this. You have to remember that whatever you've gone through if pales in comparison to the hardships previous generations endured and they overcame them. And if they overcame them, you can overcame them too.

而有些奴隸卻說我不在乎。我們在經(jīng)歷著什么，一定能熬過去的。你必須記住，無論你經(jīng)歷過什么，與前幾代人所經(jīng)歷的艱辛相比，他們都克服了。既然他們能夠克服，你也能夠克服。

You don't know what you've got until all hell breaks loose. You don't know what you can take until the pressure is applied to your life. You don't know what you can endure until you've been under fire and under struggle and under tribulation.

你不知道自己擁有的一切，直到困難降臨。你不知道自己承受的極限，直到人生充滿壓力。你不知道自己能夠容忍多少，直到你在水深火熱的斗爭中，深受折磨。

You can't learn what's in you sitting back in a lazy boy chair hitting the remote control watching HBO and Cinemax. But when all hell breaks loose that's when you get to see what you got.

你永遠無法了解自己內(nèi)在的潛力，假如你一直癱坐在懶人椅上，拿著遙控器看HBO 和Cinemax（看電視劇、電影）。只有當(dāng)苦難降臨到你身上，你才真正看到自己的能力。

I didn't get to see the design. I didn't get to see the architectural plans, but I know I'm made of some good stuff. I can tell by the burdens I bear and the load I carry and the stuff I endure.
