作為英國文學(xué)史上最杰出的戲劇家,全世界最卓越的文學(xué)家之一,莎士比亞流傳下來的作品包括37部戲劇、154首十四行詩、兩首長敘事詩,堪稱著作等身。他的作品從生活真實(shí)出發(fā),深刻地反映了時代風(fēng)貌和社會本質(zhì)。其戲劇情節(jié)生動、豐富,人物具有鮮明個性,同時具有典型意義;作品中現(xiàn)實(shí)主義的刻畫和浪漫主義的氛圍巧妙結(jié)合;而語言豐富飽滿,富有表現(xiàn)力,并具有創(chuàng)造性。他創(chuàng)造出相當(dāng)數(shù)量生動活潑、簡潔精辟、色彩鮮明的短語或習(xí)語,極大地豐富了英語的表現(xiàn)力,也使其作品更富有情趣、詩意和魅力。

莎士比亞不僅精于遣詞造句,而且善用修辭,作品中比喻、笑謔、擬人、雙關(guān)語等別開生面,許多佳句音韻美妙,或表現(xiàn)鮮明形象,或者表達(dá)深刻哲理,更有利于他的作品語言在日常生活中的廣泛傳播和被人接受。

但其表達(dá)復(fù)雜,且篇幅冗長,對孩子來說,依然是個十分艱巨的挑戰(zhàn),其晦澀難懂,也不易于孩子所接受。加上莎翁戲劇里的很多人性暗黑陰暗面,也并非低齡孩子所合適閱讀的。但是莎士比亞的詩歌毫不拘謹(jǐn),自由奔放,詩歌的語言富于想象,感情充沛,頗能引起共鳴。因此,怎么讀,如何讀,讀哪些作品,都是值得考量的。不過,從一個人閱讀的歷史來看,不管早晚,在浩繁的千萬種書籍中,總是會遇到莎士比亞的。因此,我們還是建議孩子們讀一讀他的一些原著,特別是詩歌作品。詩塾本期花長時間未孩子們選出了一些感情真摯的十四行詩,以及節(jié)選于戲劇中的詩歌作品,給孩子們閱讀。

To be, or not to be: that is the question:

Whether ‘tis nobler in the mind to suffer

珍惜榮譽(yù),動輒爭吵,

追求虛名

大腹便便填滿了閹雞, 

目光嚴(yán)厲,胡須修剪齊整,

滿嘴智慧的格言和陳腐的俗套;

他就是如此扮演自己的角色。第六個時期
