作為英國文學(xué)史上最杰出的戲劇家，全世界最卓越的文學(xué)家之一，莎士比亞流傳下來的作品包括37部戲劇、154首十四行詩、兩首長敘事詩，堪稱著作等身。他的作品從生活真實(shí)出發(fā)，深刻地反映了時代風(fēng)貌和社會本質(zhì)。其戲劇情節(jié)生動、豐富，人物具有鮮明個性，同時具有典型意義；作品中現(xiàn)實(shí)主義的刻畫和浪漫主義的氛圍巧妙結(jié)合；而語言豐富飽滿，富有表現(xiàn)力，并具有創(chuàng)造性。他創(chuàng)造出相當(dāng)數(shù)量生動活潑、簡潔精辟、色彩鮮明的短語或習(xí)語，極大地豐富了英語的表現(xiàn)力，也使其作品更富有情趣、詩意和魅力。

莎士比亞不僅精于遣詞造句，而且善用修辭，作品中比喻、笑謔、擬人、雙關(guān)語等別開生面，許多佳句音韻美妙，或表現(xiàn)鮮明形象，或者表達(dá)深刻哲理，更有利于他的作品語言在日常生活中的廣泛傳播和被人接受。

但其表達(dá)復(fù)雜，且篇幅冗長，對孩子來說，依然是個十分艱巨的挑戰(zhàn)，其晦澀難懂，也不易于孩子所接受。加上莎翁戲劇里的很多人性暗黑陰暗面，也并非低齡孩子所合適閱讀的。但是莎士比亞的詩歌毫不拘謹(jǐn)，自由奔放，詩歌的語言富于想象，感情充沛，頗能引起共鳴。因此，怎么讀，如何讀，讀哪些作品，都是值得考量的。不過，從一個人閱讀的歷史來看，不管早晚，在浩繁的千萬種書籍中，總是會遇到莎士比亞的。因此，我們還是建議孩子們讀一讀他的一些原著，特別是詩歌作品。詩塾本期花長時間未孩子們選出了一些感情真摯的十四行詩，以及節(jié)選于戲劇中的詩歌作品，給孩子們閱讀。
