這組名詞都可表示物體的“邊”、“邊緣”的意思。

edge    普通用詞，指物體外部或最遠(yuǎn)端的部分（the outer or furthest point of

something）較窄的邊沿。

1）He'd piped fresh cream around the edge of the cake. 

他用鮮奶油沿蛋糕邊裱花。

2）I caught my leg on the edge of the table as I walked past. 

我經(jīng)過那張桌子的時候，腿磕在桌棱上了。

3）They all walked barefoot across the damp sand to the water's edge. 

他們?nèi)脊庵_走過潮濕的沙地來到水邊。

4）They built the church on the edge of the village. 

他們把教堂建在了村邊。

border   “國境”、“邊界”、“邊境”，多指兩國或兩地域的界線內(nèi)的較寬的邊緣

（the line that divides one country or a region from another）

1）The train crosses the border between France and Spain. 

火車穿過法國和西班牙之間的邊界。

2）The two countries have had frequent border disputes. 

兩國經(jīng)常發(fā)生邊界糾紛。

3）Soldiers had temporarily closed the border between the two countries. 

士兵們臨時封鎖了兩國之間的邊境線。

4）Plans parachuted food, clothing, blankets, medicine and water into the

rugged mountainous border region.

飛機將食品、衣物、毯子、藥品和水空投到崎嶇多山的邊界地區(qū)。

margin    指書頁的空白邊緣 （the part of a page or sheet outside the main

body of printed or written matter）, 也可指物體的邊緣 （the outside limit and

adjoining surface of something ，一般較寬。

1）He made some notes in the margin.

他在頁邊空白處做筆記。

2）Please sign your name on the top margin of this paper.

請把你的名字寫在這頁頂上的空白處。

3）They built a hut at the margin of the woods.

他們在林邊蓋了一間小茅屋。

rim     指圓形或有曲線的物體的外緣或邊緣（the outer, often curved or circular,

edge of something）

1）The rim of the cup was chipped and broken. 

杯口上碰出了裂紋，碎了。

2）My reading glasses have wire rims. 

我閱讀用的眼鏡是金屬絲邊的。

3）The basketball hit the rim of the basket and bounced off.

球投到籃筐邊緣又彈了回來。

4）He wore the hat with the rim turned down over his eyes.

他把帽檐翻下來遮著眼睛。

verge   指某一地標(biāo)物體的邊、邊緣、邊沿（the edge or border of something）

1）They set up camp on the verge of the desert. 

他們在沙漠邊緣扎下了營地。

2）She left her car by the side of the road and walked along the grass verge

to the emergency phone. 

她把車停在公路旁，沿著長滿草的路邊走到了緊急電話亭。

3）He spoke no more about himself, and they came to the verge of the wood .

他沒有再多談自己，這時他們來到樹林的邊緣。

brim   指深容器的內(nèi)邊，如壺、杯、碗等各種形狀容器的內(nèi)側(cè)邊緣, 也指帽子的邊。

1）Please don't fill my cup up to the brim.

請別把我的杯子加滿。

2）I tried a gallon of bleach in water filled to the brim, but that didn't work.

我已經(jīng)在已經(jīng)注滿的水里加了一加侖的漂白劑，但是還是不起作用。

3）At last, the water rose to the brim, and then the small crow drank happily and

smiled.

最后，水終于升到罐口了，小烏鴉高興地喝著水，笑了。

4）A hat with a wide brim can help shade your eyes and protect your face from the

sun.

一頂有寬大帽檐的帽子能為您的眼睛遮陰并保護(hù)你的臉部不受太陽的傷害。

brink     峭壁、河岸等的邊沿，邊緣（the extreme edge of land, for example at

the top of a cliff or by a river）

1） It's dangerous to stand on the brink of the cliff. 

     站在懸崖邊上是很危險的。

2）The young brave soon found he was on the brink of a cliff hanging high over a

wide river.

這位勇敢的年輕人很快發(fā)現(xiàn)他就在一條寬闊的河上的懸崖邊上。

3）I am now finding myself on a deserted beach on the brink of a saline washout.’

我現(xiàn)在發(fā)現(xiàn)自己在一個被遺棄的海灘上，處在一個鹽漬化沖刷海岸的邊緣。

4）She stood on the brink of a waterfall, the icy cold river rushed about her waist.

她站在瀑布的邊緣，冰冷的河水沖過她的腰部。

fringe    指某一地區(qū)的“周邊”、“邊緣”，或指某一群體的“外圍”，或某活動的次要

部分 (the outer or less important part of an area or group)

1)    They put up tent on the fringe of the woods.   

他們在樹林邊緣搭起帳篷。

2)    The castle rises in solitary splendor on the fringe of the desert.   

這座城堡巍然聳立在沙漠的邊際，顯得十分壯美。

3）They lived together in a household on the fringe of a campus. 

他們一起住在校園邊上一處房子里。

4）It was easier to move about on the fringe of the crowd.   

在人群外圍移動比較容易。
