Peter Doig(彼得多伊格),1959年出生于蘇格蘭愛丁堡,1962年他與家人一起移居特立尼達(dá)和多巴哥,他的父親在航運(yùn)及貿(mào)易公司工作。1966年,他們又移居加拿大。 1979年他在倫敦溫布爾登藝術(shù)學(xué)院和圣馬丁藝術(shù)學(xué)院學(xué)習(xí)藝術(shù),隨后又就讀于切爾西藝術(shù)學(xué)院,并獲得碩士學(xué)位。80年代他在蒙特利爾居住和工作。1993年他以作品Blotter在John Moores展覽中獲得自己的第一個(gè)獎(jiǎng)項(xiàng)。1994年,他被提名參與特納獎(jiǎng)評選。1995年至2000年他受任英國泰特美術(shù)館評審員一職。2002年,多伊格搬回特立尼達(dá)和多巴哥,在那里他在加勒比當(dāng)代藝術(shù)中心(Caribbean Contemporary Arts centre)成立了一個(gè)工作室,同時(shí)也成為德國杜塞爾多夫美術(shù)學(xué)院的教授。 I think it's time…, 1982-83. Art School,1990. 雖然多伊格的作品幾乎全都是風(fēng)景畫,但他卻是一位另類的風(fēng)景畫家,亦一直抗拒與傳統(tǒng)風(fēng)景畫扯上關(guān)系。他的作品不拘一格,所描繪的風(fēng)景,是記憶與想像之間的形象,靈感來自都市生活中偶遇的攝影或電影題材,或童年時(shí)期的風(fēng)季印記。畫面基本上是虛假的形象,帶有奇特的色彩和光影效果,不協(xié)調(diào)的透視角度和繪畫傳統(tǒng)與技法的融合。在白雪覆蓋的山坡上,在池邊或湖畔,在森林或沼澤里都可見一些人,但他們的出現(xiàn),似是基于構(gòu)圖上的考慮。密林間我們也可隱約瞥見富有現(xiàn)代特色的建筑或小屋,但它們存在于這個(gè)地方的原因卻難以考究。 Grasshopper,1990.Oil on canvas,200 x 250 cm.
