This is my crochet hat pattern with the long dc. The size given in this pattern is for a teen or small adult size. But the good thing about crocheted hats though is that you can easily adjust the size for a custom fit. For this pattern you could try a thicker yarn and larger hook, or just do more repeats of the increase rows. Special instructions are given for that in a pattern note. This hat is crocheted with a brim, but you could just as easy go without it and wear it as a beanie. For me the brim looks okay as it is, but for a sturdier brim you could add a lining underneath to help keep the shape better. Other patterns using this stitch pattern are a twisted cowl, fingerless gloves, cellphone cozie and a coin purse. Still to come are a purse and a pouch. This Pattern was Tested By: Ashley Marie Thank you both very much for sticking with me on this one, and for helping me correct it twice. :) I had a great time working with you and hope to work with you on many more patterns. Skill Level: Easy/Intermediate. Materials Gauge: 2″ across the circle of first 5 rnds. Finished Size: Teens/Adult Small – When laying flat it measures 9″ across and 7″ from top to bottom. There are two ways to increase the size: A larger hook and thicker yarn, or do more repeats of the increase rows. Abbreviations: Ch/Chs = Chain/Chains Working the Cross-Over Long Double Crochet: For this pattern the cross-over long double crochet is worked into the last stitch made in previous round, or into the skipped stitch of current round. To make the stitch, yarn over and insert the hook from front to back into designated stitch. Yarn over at the back and pull through. You should have three loops on your hook. Yarn over and pull through first two loops. Yarn over and pull through last two loops. Cross-Over Long DC A Few Images to Help with Rnds 16-23: Mark last stitch of last rnd – this is where you will work your first cross-over long dc into. You might also want to mark the first stitch in the next round. That way you know exactly where to join.

Skip Next Stitch, Hdc in Next 3 Sts.
Second Cross-Over Long Dc Made.
This is what it looks like once completed. Only thing left is to join it with a slip stitch in the marked hdc.
But before you join, move the stitch marker up into the last stitch made.
Join and make your first stitch. Move the stitch marker up. Continue moving the markers up to help you see clearly where to join and work the stitches.
