Wang Min was born in 1986. She graduated from the Oil Painting Department of the Academy of Fine Arts, South China Normal University in 2011. From 2011 to 2014 she studied for her Masters Degree at South China Normal University focusing on research in modern art and ethics.
In university, Wang Min also explored contemporary art and an understanding of its social significance. While Wang Min studied art she gradually became influenced by a number of contemporary artists. During her studies Wang Min used her own thinking to create a series of paintings that received her teacher’s appreciation and support. For her artistic path, she developed her ethereal and clear style of painting to try to find out the contemporary art road is best suited for her.
Although the career of any artist will have many paths and turns, in the exploration of art, she is constantly learning and combining characteristics of eastern and Western painting techniques. Shi Lei, Yang GuoXin and Li BangYao, Fang ShaoHua, Duan JianYu, Lu Shun, Wei QingJi, Mao JianXiong, and many other eastern painters have inspired the style she has developed. But Magritte, Arikha, Katz, Cross, Herron, and Wayne are western artists that have also become a main light for the Wang Min’s life.
For her first series of works < Turn Left,Turn Right >, her artworks directly and deeply expressed emotions contained in the stages of life. They reflect the deep exploration of contradictory and confused states. This was an essential turning point for Wang Min. In series and < brightness > series, her paintings have take on a dark gray tone. People have strong and obscure personal emotions that she has best expressed by the washed colors of the works. These series began to show her intense and innovative personal style. V.Host is one of the strongest representative works. Throughout many of her portrait themed works, different paintings show the different and rich contemporary female states of mind. The different portrayals of female eyes display different emotions. Sometimes they are strong, sometimes they are ambiguous, sometimes they are flexible, and sometimes pure. Wang Min uses her own brush to express the heart and feeling in the world.
Wang Min’s earlier pieces were filled with a vibrant and effective grasp of color. In the last few years, trimming back color to essential tones has increased focus on the development of her technique and her ability to evoke feeling. Wang Min’s works bring their greatest reception with the younger generations of China who connect with her effective and positive vision of contemporary China.
After absorbing numerous works of other artists, her creations have become more and more prominent with their own unique style. She has moved beyond the stationary thinking and typical poses of traditional portraiture by creating the ethereal images that translate inner movement and ambiguity portraying and expressing her own deep reflection.
