Say. Say that there's no competition to the iPhone. Keep saying that no other smartphone can ever surpass the standards the iPhone has set. The more you say it, the fiercer the competition becomes. Take example of this very comparison today. While Retina Display is a treatise from Apple for all its iDevices, Super AMOLED (Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode) Plus is ruling almost all new Android devices in the tech block today. Whether it is the phenomenal Samsung Galaxy S, the extremely cool Google Nexus One, or the 'incredible' Droid X from Motorola, the AMOLED display in all has vowed to beat the iPhone's Retina Display to death! Super AMOLED Plus was first introduced by the second installment Samsung Galaxy S series (Galaxy S II), and is now acquired by many other smartphone companies. While earlier, the screen detecting touch was overlaid on top, the advantage of Super AMOLED plus over other display technologies is that the layer detecting taps of finger on the screen is integrated into the screen itself, giving you finer resolution, and consuming lesser battery life. So, do the Apple guys have to sense fear? We will see that. However, before landing onto any conclusion or verdict, let's figure out what's the brouhaha about both. Super AMOLED Plus Samsung notes, acts, and conquers. The 'Plus' added to Super AMOLED is its upgrade of display features for its devices, the result of which is a better display with approximately 50 percent more sub-pixels (12 sub-pixels instead of 8), and the usage of RGB matrix which is a successor to the previous Pentile Matrix. The resolution is just a few mini inches lower, but it makes no compromise with the thinner, brighter, and more efficient display that the first generation Super AMOLED boasted of. While Super AMOLED Plus reigns over all other smartphone displays in the market, Samsung gears up to a new process of manufacturing their display which targets 330ppi resolution. What makes it a worthy option is its ability to make the screen visible even more in bright light. The images are crisper, and color tone is just incredibly awesome. Well, comparing it with iPhone's Retina Display is definitely a tough one! Retina Display Hands down, it's the wondrously sharper Retina Display technology by Apple that its top competitors pulled up their socks! The iPhone 4S, Apple's latest iPhone treatise, boasts of the best Retina Display, thanks to the pixel density of iPhone (326ppi) that makes all texts and images look sharper, and smoother. What's more, it is because the pixels of iPhone 4S display are mere 78 micrometers wide that the pixel density could easily be increased in the sophisticated screen of the iPhone 4S. What sets Retina Display apart from its competitors is the availability of IPS (in-plane switching) technology that offers a wider viewing angle, no matter what angle or way you hold your iPhone. Indeed, the iPhone 4S is the most innovative phone yet. However, the only issue is, the better it becomes in terms of technology, the more its competitors gear up to beat it. So, between Samsung's Super AMOLED Plus and iDevices' Retina Display, who takes away all the Brownie Points? Let the following section unveil. Super AMOLED Plus or Retina Display - The Verdict The key difference between both these display options is that unlike Retina Display, the AMOLED plus needs no backlight, and hence, this saves a lot of battery power in the Samsung devices. So, point one, AMOLED Plus is energy-efficient. Secondly, because of the presence of OLED pixels, you see colors in a much more vibrant manner, along with a better contrast, and high accuracy. What is more, even though Apple's IPS technology is wooing tech devotees all over, the AMOLED Plus definitely has better viewing angles and contrast in comparison to all other competitors. Last but not the least, the Super AMOLED Plus display is less reflective in the sun when compared to the Retina Display of Apple's iPhone. There's no doubting the fact that the iPhone 4S has one of the best displays in the world. However, the newly launched AMOLED Plus sure takes away all plus points, or so it looks. Move over, iPhone! That's what all Android lovers have to say. If the ubiquity of Apple's iDevices is sickening you, today, you've got another reason to switch to a smartphone that is not an Apple kid. Agreed, display isn't the only reason on the basis of which a consumer can decide which phone to buy. However, one can't neglect it either.
