A two-year-old boy was scalded by boiling water at home in Pudong New Area this morning and was rushed to Shanghai Ruijin Hospital in downtown Huangpu District in about 30 minutes, led by a police car.
The boy suffered burns over 10 percent of his body surface, mostly his hips and legs, and is now being treated at the hospital. Doctors said the burns could have caused a shock if his treatment was delayed, according to Xinmin.cn
Pudong police received a call at about 8:30am that the severely burned boy was on the way from Liuzao district in Pudong to downtown Ruijin Hospital in a taxi. To save the boy, a police car was dispatched to lead the taxi through dense rush-hour traffic to the hospital.
The boy arrived at the hospital in about 30 minutes. The 40-kilometer journey normally takes about an hour with all the traffic lights.
