Playing around on my new Archos 7, I played
around with it for quite a bit figuring stuff out. I thought maybe these
tips might help some new users. As I discover more stuff I will update
this post.
Where the Eff is
my SD Card??
Ok, so this drove me nuts for a while... When
you plug in your Archos via USB cable and mount it, you only get 1
removable drive listed. If you look on the Archos settings, under SD
Card, It shows you have "Unavailable" and a grayed out Unmount SD Card
option. So where is it??? Well, when you connect to you PC and you see
the Archos, you will see a folder called "SDCARD". This is your SD Card!
Anything you copy into this folder will be on the root of your SD Card.
Changing the Background!
Ok,
this stumped me for a while. For some reason when I did it like on my G1
Phone, regardless of what area I chose with the selection box, this
picture always looked like ass. Blah Blah Blah, here is what I did to
get my picture to fill the screen.
1) Resize your picture to
800x480. 2) Copy it over to your A7 however you feel most
comfortable. I used ES File Explorer (I will get to this app in a
second). 3) Long Press on the screen and pick Wallpaper. 4) Pick
Photo 5) Here is the important part! Do
NOT open the picture! Long Press on the picture and choose "Set
as Wallpaper"
Done.
Connecting to a Shared Folder in ES File Explorer
1)
Open ES File Explorer. Where you see the "local" button, press it. 2)
Choose LAN. It will tell you to go to "Settings - New" and setup a new
connection. 3) On the top right of
the screen, press the three white bar icon. This will open the
Settings up. 4) Press New, and a little menu will pop up. 5) Input
the IP on the computer with the shared folder, followed by the folder
name. Example:
192.168.1.12/shared 6) You probably don't have to put in any
user name and password if you are on your home network, but you will
need to know this info! 7) If everything went ok, you should now have
a little connectoid. Press it, and you should see your shared files. 8)
Long Press a file and push Copy. 9) Click on the LAN button on the
top right, and choose "Local". 10) Pick a folder where you want to
copy the files, and press the Up arrow on the tab on the bottom of the
screen. 11) Long Press a file, and copy it.
That should do it
=P
If I think of anything else, or come across any more
weirdness, I will post it here. Help this helps some of you guys who
just got their Archos 7!
